Salary: Up to £38,000 + Overtime / TOIL + Excellent Benefits

Prototype Wiring Technician – Build More Than Just Products

Syntech Recruitment are partnering with a specialist engineering business developing bespoke electronic and electro-mechanical systems for highly demanding applications.

This is not a repetitive production wiring role.

As a Prototype Wiring Technician, you'll work directly with engineers and production teams to build, modify and develop prototype and low-volume electronic assemblies. You'll play a key role in bringing new products to life, supporting projects throughout the full engineering lifecycle from development through to manufacture.

Prototype Wiring Technician Responsibilities

  • Build prototype wiring looms, harnesses and cable assemblies

  • Wire and terminate D-sub (D-type) connectors and associated cable assemblies

  • Carry out soldering, crimping and cable preparation activities

  • Assemble electro-mechanical products from engineering drawings and build documentation

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs)

  • Support prototype and development builds throughout the product lifecycle

  • Carry out modifications, engineering changes and rework activities

  • Perform continuity checks and basic electrical testing

  • Follow job cards, work instructions and test procedures

  • Work closely with engineering teams to resolve build issues and support product development

  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, quality and documentation

Prototype Wiring Technician Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in a wiring, harness assembly, cable assembly or electro-mechanical build role

  • Experience wiring and terminating D-sub (D-type) connectors

  • Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and wiring diagrams

  • Strong soldering and crimping skills

  • Good hands-on bench assembly experience

  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment

Desirable

IPC-A-610 and/or IPC-A-620 certification or experience

Experience within a prototype, development or R&D environment

Basic electrical testing experience including continuity testing and multimeter use

Mechanical assembly experience

Background within electronics, defence, aerospace, instrumentation or specialist engineering environments
