Psychology Graduate - Learning Support Assistant

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gateshead is looking for a Psychology Graduate to join its support team as a Learning Support Assistant this September.

This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates who are considering a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, Mental Health, Counselling or Teaching.

The school has a strong focus on children's wellbeing, inclusion and individual development. You'll work alongside teachers and the SENCO, gaining genuine experience of supporting children's behaviour, emotional wellbeing, development and learning.

You will:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support.
• Support children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and additional learning needs.
• Help pupils develop emotional regulation and social skills.
• Encourage confidence, independence and resilience.
• Support children experiencing barriers to learning.
• Assist with targeted learning and behavioural interventions.
• Observe pupil behaviour and engagement and share feedback with staff.
• Build positive relationships with pupils.
• Support a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment.

The experience can be particularly valuable for graduates planning postgraduate study or future careers within psychology and children's services.

• Psychology degree or related qualification.
• Genuine interest in working with children.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
• Strong communication skills.
• Previous experience with children is desirable but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
