Have you recently graduated with a Psychology degree and want to gain meaningful, hands-on experience supporting children and young people with additional needs?

Protocol Education is working in partnership with a welcoming specialist SEN school in Gateshead to recruit a dedicated Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team this September.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills while supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, learning difficulties and complex needs. You'll work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and SEN professionals, gaining invaluable experience for a future career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy or Teaching.

Role Details
  • Full-time position
  • September 2026 start
  • Monday-Friday
  • Working hours between 8:30am-3:30pm and 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Term-time only
  • Long-term role with the opportunity to become permanent
Your Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
  • Help children develop confidence, communication and independence
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and SENCOs
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families and staff
  • Record pupil progress and celebrate achievements
We're Looking For
  • A Psychology degree (or a closely related subject)
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy and resilience
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
