Purchasing & Production Coordinator

Location: Baldock, Hertfordshire
Salary: £26,437 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Due to the rural location and limited public transport links, applicants must hold a valid driving licence and have access to their own transport.

We are recruiting for an organised and detail-focused Purchasing & Production Coordinator to join an established and growing manufacturing business based near Baldock.

This varied position supports both purchasing and production operations. You will process quotations and works orders, raise purchase orders, coordinate material requirements and ensure supplier deliveries arrive on time to keep production running smoothly.

The successful candidate will be confident using computer-based systems, managing multiple priorities and communicating effectively with suppliers and internal departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enter and process customer quotations and production works orders.
  • Maintain accurate job information within the company’s ERP/MRP system.
  • Raise purchase orders for materials, components and subcontracted services.
  • Order materials for current and upcoming production requirements.
  • Monitor outstanding purchase orders and expected delivery dates.
  • Liaise with suppliers and chase outstanding or delayed deliveries.
  • Communicate potential delays and material shortages to the relevant teams.
  • Ensure materials are available when required to support production schedules.
  • Check supplier order confirmations against purchase orders.
  • Update purchase orders following changes to quantities, prices or delivery dates.
  • Liaise closely with production, purchasing, estimating and management teams.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier and production records.
  • Monitor job progress and follow up on outstanding actions.
  • Provide general administrative support to the wider office and production teams.
Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience within administration, purchasing or production coordination.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, engineering or a similar technical environment.
  • Strong computer, systems and data-entry skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
  • The ability to manage several orders and priorities simultaneously.
  • Confidence communicating with suppliers and internal colleagues.
  • A proactive approach to resolving problems and following up on actions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A valid driving licence and access to their own transport.

Previous experience using an ERP or MRP system is desirable. Knowledge of MIE Trak would be particularly advantageous, although full training can be provided.

Experience within metal fabrication, sheet metalwork, engineering or manufacturing would also be beneficial.
