Join a Supportive Children's Social Care Team

Knowsley Borough Council is looking for experienced Qualified Social Workers to join its Child Protection Team on an agency basis while permanent recruitment is underway.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-supported service that prioritises manageable caseloads, staff wellbeing, and high-quality practice. With a structured duty model and strong management oversight, you'll have the time and support to focus on achieving the best outcomes for children and families.

The Role

Working within the Child Protection Team, you'll manage Children in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) cases, completing assessments, safeguarding children, and delivering effective interventions to support families.

The service operates a structured 1 in 8-week duty rota:

  • During your duty week, you'll progress newly allocated cases through to the first court hearing.

  • Following the first hearing, court proceedings are transferred, meaning you won't carry ongoing court work-a unique approach that helps maintain sustainable workloads.

  • The remaining 7 weeks are dedicated to working directly with children and families, allowing you to complete assessments, deliver interventions, and provide focused support without the pressures of ongoing duty.

This model enables Social Workers to concentrate on quality practice while promoting a healthy work-life balance.

What You'll Need

To be considered, you'll have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent).

  • Current registration with Social Work England.

  • Recent experience within Children's Social Care, particularly Child Protection and Children in Need.

  • Strong assessment, safeguarding, and risk management skills.

  • Experience working within statutory Children's Services.

  • Excellent communication, recording, and report-writing skills.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies.

If you're an experienced Children's Social Worker looking for a supportive agency opportunity with a well-organised service and sustainable workloads, we'd love to hear from you.
