The Opportunity
A well-established precision engineering business in North Kent is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer with a background in metrology to join its quality team.
This is a hands-on role focused on measurement systems, inspection and quality analysis. You will be responsible for inspection planning, quality records and measurement activities while working closely with manufacturing teams to improve repeatability, reliability and quality.
The role would suit someone with a strong understanding of quality engineering and metrology who is comfortable working with engineering drawings, tolerances and inspection equipment. Experience with CMM and optical measurement systems would be particularly beneficial.
What You'll Be Doing
- Maintain detailed records relating to Inspection Plans, ISIRs and FAIRs
- Develop measurement policies aimed at reducing scrap within the machine shop
- Participate in product design reviews to promote repeatability and reliability
- Conduct capability studies and gauge R&R as required
- Use a range of metrology equipment across both imperial and metric measurements
- Interpret engineering drawings and understand manufacturing tolerances
- Maintain accurate and detailed quality records
- Support quality requirements across the manufacturing environment
- Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues
- Work to agreed deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Ensure relevant work instructions and quality procedures are followed
- Support a strong culture of quality, accuracy and continuous improvement
- Background in quality engineering with working knowledge of metrology
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong knowledge of quality systems
- Experience maintaining detailed quality records
- Practical experience using metrology and inspection equipment
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and tolerances
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and optical measurement systems would be highly beneficial. Experience with First Article Inspection to AS9102 or working as an internal auditor to AS9100D would also be advantageous.
Experience working with plastics, rubber and metals and an understanding of their inspection methods would also be useful.
