Job Summary and role description:
Quality Engineer / Assistant Quality Engineer
We are seeking a Full Time Quality Engineer to join us at Devonport, Plymouth where we are the preferred contractor to carry out heavy civil engineering construction in and around the Navy dockyard. The key applicant will be working alongside the project and delivery teams to deliver the project Quality Assurance.
Due to the nature of work at Devonport, there will be a high level of security checking in place which means for this project we can only consider candidates that are British citizens.
Responsibilities
As a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:
- Interface with the delivery engineers, internal quality team and customer quality representatives
- Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, procurement team & Stores Controller
- Implementing and ensuring adherence to project procedures, scope, specification, Project Execution Plan (PEP) and British/ International Standards
- Assist with stores control, stock management and product traceability, including product movements, physical product checks, delivery ticket and Certificate of Conformity checks, and approving products for use onsite
- Contributing to the compilation and review of quality documentation, including Lifetime Quality Records, Product Approval Records and project procedures
- Ensure Inspection Test Plans (ITP) are being followed and supporting evidence is up to date
- Carry out site inspections to ensure compliance with Nuclear Safety Standards, drawings and specifications.
- Monitoring testing frequencies and results meet project requirements
- Raising Non-Conformance Reports and assisting with the product quarantine process
- Draft communication to the customer via CEMAR
- Assist in delivering quality related briefings and training
- Maintain accurate records and trackers, and ensure document control standards are maintained
- Co-operate with staff and customer representatives to ensure that problems of quality are solved promptly and efficiently
- Assisting the Quality and Engineering teams with ad-hoc duties where required
Who are we looking for?
Essential:
- High level of IT skills including Microsoft 365, Word, Excel, Powerpoint & digital filing
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in highly regulated environments
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Ability to work to ISO / British Standards and extract relevant information
- High level of organisation skills
Desirable:
- Prior experience in the Quality field OR in Civil Construction Engineering (Graduate/ Site/ Section Engineer)
- Experience with PDF editing
- Previous experience working in MOD or nuclear industries
- Awareness of construction methodologies
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 / Quality Management Systems
- Use of web-based contract communication tools (CEMAR)
- CSCS card holder
Hybrid working:
Working from home may be possible on occasions, though consistent site attendance is required due to the nature of the project.
