Quality Engineer in Burnaston, Derbyshire

Job Description:

To lead day-to-day quality activities at Burnaston, ensuring product and process conformity, effective customer protection and continual improvement of quality performance.

The role provides technical quality leadership to the plant and manages the Quality Technician resource.

The Quality Engineer / Specialist shall:

• Act as the principal plant contact for customer quality matters.
• Lead investigation and resolution of internal and customer quality concerns.
• Ensure effective containment, root-cause analysis, corrective action and verification of effectiveness.
• Monitor customer complaints, PPM, scrap, internal defects and other quality KPIs.
• Provide quality engineering support to Production and Manufacturing Engineering.
• Ensure suspect and nonconforming product is effectively controlled and escalated.
• Support APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA and engineering change activities.
• Support compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, applicable Customer Specific Requirements and Toyota requirements.
• Support internal, customer and certification audits and associated corrective actions.
• Identify recurring issues and lead improvement activities to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure relevant quality documentation and controls remain current and effective.

The Quality Engineer / Specialist is responsible for:

• Setting daily priorities and allocating Quality Technician activities.
• Providing technical support, coaching and direction.
• Ensuring inspection, verification and containment activities are completed effectively.
• Reviewing findings and ensuring appropriate escalation.
• Supporting competence development and training.
• Ensuring suitable quality support and coverage for plant requirements.

Essential:

• Quality Engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong structured problem-solving capability.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and quality data.
• Understanding of manufacturing process controls.
• Ability to lead and prioritise quality activities.
• Effective customer and cross-functional communication.
• HNC or Beng in quality related or engineering principles

Preferred:

• Automotive Tier 1 or OEM experience.
• IATF 16949 knowledge.
• Toyota/TMUK experience.
• APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA and SPC knowledge.
• Internal auditor competence.
• Previous team leadership or supervisory experience.
