Our client, a specialist precision engineering manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support manufacturing quality, NPI and continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on position working closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Production and Supply Chain, investigating quality issues, driving root-cause activity and implementing sustainable improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate internal, customer and supplier quality issues
- Lead structured root-cause investigations using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone and Pareto analysis
- Implement and verify corrective and preventive actions
- Support NPI and ensure quality requirements are understood and implemented
- Support APQP, PPAP, FAIR, MSA/Gage R&R, SPC and CAPA activities
- Develop and maintain FMEAs, Control Plans, process flows and inspection plans
- Manage non-conforming product, containment and disposition
- Analyse quality data including scrap, rework, defects and customer complaints
- Conduct process, product, internal and supplier audits
- Support supplier corrective actions and performance improvement
- Review engineering changes and assess quality impact
- Produce and maintain quality procedures, work instructions and inspection standards
- Support FAIRs, Quality Plans and Inspection Test Plans
- Work directly with production teams to reduce defects and improve manufacturing processes
- Promote a proactive, zero-defect and continuous-improvement culture
- Proven Quality Engineering experience within a manufacturing/production environment
- Strong practical root-cause and structured problem-solving experience
- Experience with 8D, 5 Why and corrective-action processes
- Understanding of FMEA and manufacturing process controls
- Experience working with Quality Management Systems
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and technical specifications
- Understanding of machining/manufacturing processes
- Experience managing multiple quality issues and priorities
- Strong data-analysis and reporting skills
- Good Microsoft Excel capability
- Practical, hands-on approach to quality and continuous improvement
- Experience within an AS9100 environment
- FAI / AS9102 experience
- APQP and PPAP experience
- MSA / Gage R&R and SPC knowledge
- Supplier quality experience
- Internal/external auditing experience
- CMM programming experience
- HNC in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering
- External Auditor training
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
- Knowledge of CNC machining processes including turning, milling and drilling
- Key role influencing manufacturing quality and continuous improvement
- Work across Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Chain
- Involvement throughout NPI and production
- Opportunity to lead genuine quality improvement projects
