Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our clients engineering team. This role is responsible for supporting quality throughout the business by investigating technical issues, carrying out engineering inspections, and ensuring products and services meet customer expectations.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of metallurgy, engineering materials, and inspection techniques, with the ability to identify defects, investigate root causes, and support continuous improvement across engineering operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out engineering inspections on components and assemblies throughout the manufacturing and repair process.
• Evaluate materials and components using metallurgical knowledge to identify defects, failures and performance issues.
• Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis, providing technical recommendations and corrective actions.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications and inspection reports to ensure products meet customer requirements.
• Support first-off inspections, in-process inspections and final acceptance inspections.
• Investigate non-conformances and work closely with engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues.
• Produce clear technical reports detailing inspection findings and recommendations.
• Assist with supplier quality activities, including reviewing inspection data and supporting technical investigations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability and manufacturing processes.
• Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical quality concerns.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Previous experience as a Quality Engineer within an engineering, manufacturing or inspection environment.
• Strong knowledge of metallurgy, engineering materials and material properties.
• Experience carrying out engineering inspections using a range of inspection methods.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience investigating product failures and conducting root cause analysis.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.

Desirable

• HNC, HND or Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Knowledge of welding, fabrication, machining or pressure equipment.
• Experience producing detailed technical and inspection reports.
