Quality Engineer

Greater Manchester | £35,000 – £42,000 | On-site

Are you a Quality Engineer who enjoys getting involved at the front end of new products, but also likes getting to the root cause of recurring manufacturing problems?

We are recruiting for a growing aerospace manufacturing business in Greater Manchester. The organisation operates across multiple manufacturing sites, specialising in precision machining, sheet metal fabrication and specialist processes.

With a strong order book and significant new work coming into the business, they are strengthening their Quality team and are looking for a Quality Engineer who can help ensure new products are introduced effectively while tackling existing quality challenges.

The role

This is a varied Quality Engineering position with roughly half of your time focused on NPI and product introduction, and the other half on problem-solving and continuous improvement.

You will:

  • Support APQP and First Article activities for new products.
  • Help establish and maintain a robust, gated NPI quality process.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering and other functions to ensure products are introduced correctly.
  • Produce and review FAIR documentation.
  • Investigate non-conformances and recurring product quality issues.
  • Lead structured root cause investigations using tools such as 8D and 5 Why.
  • Develop corrective and preventative actions that address the underlying cause rather than simply containing the problem.
  • Use quality data to identify trends and prioritise improvement activity.
  • Support wider continuous improvement projects across the business.

About you

We are looking for someone with a solid grounding in manufacturing quality who is comfortable taking ownership of their own workload.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Quality Engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Good knowledge of core quality tools and structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Practical experience of 8D and root cause analysis.
  • Experience of NPI, APQP and/or First Article Inspection Reports.
  • An understanding of ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work across different functions.
  • The ability to challenge constructively and build collaborative working relationships.
  • A well-organised and methodical approach to your work.

Previous aerospace experience would be advantageous, but it is not essential. Candidates from other highly regulated manufacturing sectors such as automotive, nuclear, oil & gas or similar environments are encouraged to apply.

Salary & benefits

Salary: £35,000 – £42,000, depending on experience
Pension: 3% employer / 5% employee contribution
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays
Additional benefits: Employee benefits platform

This is an on-site position based in Greater Manchester.

Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate will be subject to security clearance and must have the full legal right to work in the UK.

Why consider this opportunity?

The business is performing strongly and has seen substantial growth in its order book. This role has been created to add capability to the Quality function as that growth continues.

Rather than simply maintaining an existing system, you will have the opportunity to improve how new products are introduced and tackle recurring quality issues properly.

For a Quality Engineer who enjoys problem-solving, variety and seeing the tangible results of their work, it offers plenty of scope to make an impact.
