Role: Quality Inspection Manager - Engineering

Shift: Full-time Permanent Dayshift
A great opportunity to join a successful manufacturing business located near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire We are seeking an experienced Quality Inspection Manager to lead a team of General Inspectors and CMM Programmer/Inspectors within our aerospace manufacturing environment. The role is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance and technical capability while maintaining effective management of the inspection function, ensuring inspection workload is prioritised and completed within planned lead times. The successful candidate will take ownership of inspection methods, CMM capability, calibration, continuous improvement, and team performance and development working closely with Production, Engineering, Planning and Quality.
Key Responsibilities – Quality Inspection Manager
Team Leadership & Workload Management
• Lead, manage and develop the Inspection Team.
• Plan, allocate and prioritise daily inspection workload in line with production and customer
requirements.
• Monitor workload, capacity, performance and lead times, identifying and escalating potential delivery risks.
• Develop a flexible, multi-skilled team through training, mentoring and cross-skilling.
• Conduct team meetings, one-to-ones and performance reviews.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, quality and continuous improvement.
Inspection & Technical Capability
• Own the development, standardisation and continual improvement of inspection methods.
• Ensure inspection methods are accurate, repeatable, efficient and appropriate to product
requirements.
• Provide technical leadership for CMM inspection and programming activities.
• Support the introduction of new inspection technology, equipment and measurement techniques.
• Work with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to develop inspection strategies for new and existing products.
Calibration & Equipment
• Own the inspection equipment calibration process, ensuring equipment remains within calibration and is fit for purpose.
• Maintain effective control and traceability of measurement equipment and calibration records.
• Manage external calibration requirements and investigate out-of-calibration situations.
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure inspection activities comply with company procedures, customer requirements and applicable aerospace standards.
• Maintain high standards of product quality, traceability and inspection records.
• Support non-conformance investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Support internal, customer and regulatory audits.
• Ensure quality or measurement risks are identified and escalated appropriately.
Development & Continuous Improvement
• Own the competency and development of the Inspection Team.
• Maintain skills matrices and identify training and development requirements.
• Develop inspection capability through structured training, mentoring and succession planning.
• Drive improvements in inspection efficiency, lead times, processes and methods.
• Promote Lean, 5S and continuous improvement within the inspection function.
Qualifications & Requirements – Quality Inspection Manager
- experience within aerospace, precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment.
- experience in dimensional inspection / metrology.
- Previous experience leading, supervising or managing an inspection or metrology team.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and GD&T.
- Experience managing inspection workload and production priorities.
- Knowledge of calibration and measurement equipment control.
- understanding of quality and inspection processes.
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- experience developing and mentoring technical personnel.
- Lean / Continuous Improvement experience.
