Quality Technician in Middlesbrough

Posted by The Sterling Choice

We’re supporting a well-established global FMCG manufacturer looking for an experienced Quality Technician to join its Quality team.

There is flexibility around the appointment, with the business open to both permanent candidates and experienced professionals available for a short-term contract, depending on what best suits the individual.

This is a hands-on role combining quality systems, investigation, data analysis and continuous improvement within a busy manufacturing environment.

The role

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Analysing quality, defect and non-conformance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities

  • Producing dashboards, KPI reports and clear management information

  • Investigating defects, complaints and non-conforming materials

  • Supporting root-cause analysis and corrective actions

  • Maintaining and improving quality systems and records

  • Supporting supplier quality and performance improvement

  • Monitoring product, packaging and material compliance

  • Supporting calibration and product assessment activities

  • Driving defect reduction, waste reduction and right-first-time performance

  • Supporting product and process changes

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have experience within Quality, Technical or Manufacturing, with FMCG, food, packaging or high-volume manufacturing experience particularly relevant.

Strong analytical skills are important, alongside confident use of Excel, including:

  • Pivot tables and lookups

  • Power Query

  • Dashboards

  • KPI and trend reporting

  • Data manipulation and analysis

You should be comfortable working with quality and non-conformance data, identifying root causes and translating information into clear actions and management insight. Experience with Power BI would be advantageous, particularly dashboards, data modelling and DAX. Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, DOE, Lean Manufacturing, ISO 9001 or ISO 22000 would also be beneficial.

Why consider it?

This is more than a routine Quality Technician position. You’ll have the opportunity to influence quality performance, improve reporting, investigate key issues and contribute directly to continuous improvement across the manufacturing operation.

The role will ideally be full-time, Monday to Friday and site-based near Middlesbrough. The business is flexible on engagement and will consider candidates looking for either a permanent career move or a shorter-term contract opportunity.

If your background combines manufacturing quality, problem-solving and strong data-analysis skills, we’d be keen to speak with you.
