We are working with a growing offshore and subsea engineering business to recruit a Quality & Welding Engineer to provide specialist technical assurance across welding, fabrication and inspection activities throughout its supply chain and project portfolio.
This is a hands-on technical role with genuine responsibility. You will act as the technical focal point for welding quality, ensuring fabrication activities meet the required standards, specifications and client requirements, while also supporting supplier assurance and the wider Quality function.
The Role
You will be responsible for providing technical oversight of welding and fabrication activities from supplier selection and project handover through fabrication, inspection and mobilisation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), PQR/WPQRs and welder qualifications.
- Ensure welding documentation complies with relevant codes, standards, contractual and client requirements.
- Provide technical input and hold-point authorisation during supplier inspections and fabrication activities.
- Conduct supplier audits, fabrication inspections and welding surveillance at supplier facilities and during project mobilisation.
- Support the development and review of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Review NDT procedures, qualifications and reports, working with third-party inspection bodies and NDT contractors.
- Manage welding-related NCRs, concessions and corrective actions and support root-cause investigations.
- Provide specialist welding QA/QC support across EPCI, subsea, trenching, cable-lay and asset-build projects.
- Support FATs, fabrication inspections, mobilisation readiness and offshore/site quality activities.
- Provide welding and fabrication quality input during tender, contract review and project handover.
- Support the development and continual improvement of Quality and Integrated Management Systems.
- Assist with internal audits, procedure development, document control and management reviews.
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone with strong technical credibility in welding and fabrication who is confident reviewing documentation, challenging suppliers and making informed decisions on quality.
You'll ideally have:
- A degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Professional welding qualifications such as IWE or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience reviewing and approving WPS, WPQR/PQR and welder qualifications.
- Strong working knowledge of welding and fabrication standards, including ISO 15614, ISO 9606, ISO 3834 and/or ASME IX.
- Experience with weld inspection, ideally including CSWIP 3.2 or equivalent.
- Experience reviewing NDT documentation and reports.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9712 and NDT certification schemes.
- Experience in welding QA/QC within engineering, fabrication, offshore or similar environments.
- Experience conducting supplier audits, fabrication surveillance or technical assessments.

- Offshore construction or subsea projects
- EPCI environments
- Supplier and subcontractor quality assurance
- Offshore fabrication and mobilisation
- Internal or Lead Auditor training
- NADCAP or other specialist fabrication/inspection environments
What You'll Bring:
This role requires someone who is technically credible, independent and confident enough to challenge when standards aren't being met, while remaining practical and solutions-focused.
You'll be comfortable working with suppliers, subcontractors, engineers, project teams and clients, and able to translate technical requirements into clear and achievable quality standards.
The successful candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to getting things right first time.
