Astute's Renewables Team is partnering with a leading renewable energy provider with a strong commitment to professional development and sustainability, to recruit a Quantity Surveyor for its Scunthorpe site.

The Quantity Surveyor role comes with an 18-month fixed-term contract, working four days per week in Scunthorpe, with travel to Shepton Mallet, Somerset once a month for a monthly contact day.

Responsibilities and duties of the Quantity Surveyor role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager you will:

  • Lead the subcontractor tender process, supporting the team to assess commercial options and appoint the right delivery partners.
  • Support the development and management of project budgets and cost plans, ensuring costs remain accurate and controlled.
  • Provide regular cost reporting and commercial insight to senior stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks, opportunities and cost pressures.
  • Manage payment processes, including reviewing subcontractor claims and issuing payment certificates.
  • Identify potential cost pressures early and work with project teams to develop practical commercial solutions.
  • Attend project sites to monitor progress and apply practical commercial judgement to live construction delivery.
  • Build strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams, ensuring commercial discussions remain clear and constructive.
  • Produce accurate cost data and variance reports, using lessons learned to improve current reporting and future project budgeting.
  • Support wider commercial and project teams as required, contributing to the successful delivery of the solar and BESS project.



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Qualified or professionally experienced Quantity Surveyor, ideally with a background in commercial construction, renewable energy or electrical projects.
  • Proven experience in construction cost management, budgeting, tendering and subcontractor management.
  • Alternatively, strong commercial project delivery experience within construction or a similar environment.
  • Experience managing variations, payment processes, cost reporting and commercial risk.
  • Experience with ICP appointments would be beneficial but is not essential.

  • Commercially minded with strong attention to detail and a practical approach to cost management.
  • Confident communicating with subcontractors, suppliers, senior stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Able to work autonomously while also contributing effectively within a wider project team.
  • Organised, resilient and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
