What will I be doing?

The Quantity Surveyor is required to provide commercial support to the project team, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and ensure that the Company’s objectives are achieved. They will liaise with client representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including agreement of variations, claims and any additional payments.


On a day to day basis you will:

  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations and applications for payment.
  • Identify, price and negotiate variations and compensation events.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans and cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs, profitability and commercial performance.
  • Procure subcontractors and suppliers, including preparing enquiries, analysing quotations and negotiating orders.
  • Administer subcontract agreements, valuations and final accounts.
  • Prepare monthly cost value reconciliation (CVR) reports.
  • Manage final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, JCT and bespoke contract conditions where applicable.
  • Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to maximise project performance.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
  • Support estimating and tendering activities where required.


What experience would we like you to have?

In order to be considered for interview, your application should demonstrate the following criteria:

Essential

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
  • Familiarity with NEC forms of contract and knowledge of current Construction Law.
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, highways or infrastructure
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence 


Desirable

  • Experience on major infrastructure or HS2 projects
  • Membership of RICS, CIOB or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Rail sector experience
  • Knowledge of CEMAR or other contract management software 
  • Experience within Tier 1 contractor or major projects environment
