The Company
Our client is a well-established, successful family-run groundworks contractor based in Northampton. they are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of a varied and hands-on role within the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded QS who enjoys being involved in the full process, from tender and bid stage through to procurement, pricing and commercial risk management. This is not a management role, and the successful candidate will not be required to manage a team.
The Role
The Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in the tendering and commercial delivery of groundworks and civil engineering packages, working closely with directors, site teams, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and supporting the preparation of tenders and bids from initial enquiry through to submission.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and structural engineering information to establish project requirements.
- Carrying out accurate quantity take-offs and measurements.
- Pricing specific groundworks and civils packages, including:
- Piling and foundations
- Excavation works
- Drainage
- Earthworks
- Groundworks and associated external works
- Calculating and assessing earthworks volumes.
- Reviewing structural engineering drawings and translating technical information into accurate costings.
- Identifying commercial, technical and programme risks within tender opportunities.
- Liaising with material suppliers to obtain quotations and negotiate competitive rates.
- Procuring and ordering materials for projects as required.
Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator or Senior QS within groundworks, civil engineering or related construction sectors.
- Strong experience in tendering and bid management.
- The ability to read and interpret construction, civil and structural engineering drawings.
- Experience measuring quantities and completing detailed take-offs.
- Knowledge of excavation, drainage, earthworks and groundworks packages.
- A good understanding of plant and machinery costs and requirements.
Package
- Salary: £65,000–£75,000, dependent on experience.
