Quantity Surveyor Construction

Thatcher Associates

Quantity Surveyor, civil engineering (Gloucestershire and Midlands)

Gloucestershire / Midlands | Salary competitive, dependent on experience | Car allowance

The opportunity:

An established civil engineering principal contractor operating across the South West and Midlands, delivering projects up to around £20 million across infrastructure, highways, industrial and commercial, flood defence, and bridges and structures. Their client base spans local authorities, national frameworks, and private developers including major housebuilders, so the project mix is genuinely varied rather than one type of scheme on repeat.

They are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial side of civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with site and project teams to protect margin and keep contracts commercially sound throughout delivery. This suits someone who wants to be properly embedded in live civil projects rather than sitting purely behind a desk.

What you will be doing:

  • Managing cost control, valuations and final accounts across a portfolio of civil engineering projects
  • Preparing and agreeing interim valuations with clients and subcontractors
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, including procurement, orders and payments
  • Identifying and pricing variations, and managing change control
  • Producing accurate cost reports and forecasts for project and senior management
  • Supporting the commercial team on tender pricing for new work

What you will need:

  • Proven quantity surveying experience within civil engineering or groundworks, ideally with a principal contractor
  • Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT forms of contract
  • Confident negotiator, comfortable dealing directly with clients and subcontractors
  • Full UK driving licence, given travel across sites in Gloucestershire and the Midlands
  • A degree or HNC in quantity surveying or a related discipline would be an advantage, though relevant civils experience will also be considered.

What is on offer:

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience
  • Company vehicle or car allowance
  • Pension and standard benefits package
