Overview
An established London-based specialist subcontractor with over 35 years of experience delivering high-quality interiors solutions is looking to appoint an experienced Drylining Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This role will involve a split between site and office, overseeing projects within the drylining division, typically ranging in value from £50k up to £4m.
In addition to drylining, the business delivers a wide range of services including partitioning, plastering, suspended ceilings, carpentry, structural framing systems, and full fit-out packages.
They work in partnership with a number of Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, with notable clients including Laing O'Rourke, BAM, Wates, and Mace.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the commercial management of multiple projects, ensuring strong financial control, effective risk management, and cost certainty throughout the project lifecycle.
You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, and senior commercial staff to support successful, high-quality project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage commercial responsibilities across multiple drylining packages and projects
- Prepare and maintain cost plans, budgets, and financial forecasts
- Lead subcontract procurement, including tendering, negotiation, and appointment
- Assess valuations, variations, and payment applications
- Produce accurate cost reporting and ensure projects remain within budget
- Support contract administration, with a focus on JCT contracts
- Carry out regular site visits to monitor progress and assess commercial impact
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, including value engineering
- Prepare and agree final accounts
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within drylining or interiors, ideally working with a main contractor or specialist subcontractor
- Experience managing high-value drylining packages
- Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong understanding of JCT contracts and commercial processes
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment
Please note: This role is not suited to candidates with solely residential experience.
Qualifications
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (or equivalent)
- RICS accreditation (or working towards) is advantageous
