Quantity Surveyor Electrical

BMSL Group Ltd

Electrical Quantity Surveyor
Cardiff | Site-Based | £65,000–£75,000 or £350/day

Are you an Electrical QS who understands how M&E packages are put together (not just how they’re priced)?

We’re supporting a well-established building services contractor that has recently brought its electrical capability fully in-house, creating the need for an additional commercially strong QS to support a major live healthcare project in South Wales.

They’ve already hired one high-performing QS into the tea now they want another.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of the electrical package on a large, technically complex project, working closely with delivery teams on site.

This is a hands-on, site-led role where you’ll be expected to influence outcomes, not just report on them.

Key responsibilities:

  • Full commercial management of electrical works from procurement through to final account
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations, and payments
  • Leading on variations, change control, and NEC compensation events
  • Providing accurate cost reporting, CVRs, and forecasts
  • Identifying risks early and supporting delivery teams with commercial insight
  • Managing contractual notices and protecting commercial position under NEC contracts

What They’re Looking For

You’ll come from an M&E / building services background, with strong exposure to electrical packages.

More important than tenure is capability and approach:

  • Experience running packages independently on site
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (essential)
  • Proven ability managing variations, compensation events, and final accounts
  • Commercial instinct (spotting and acting on issues early)
  • Confident dealing with subcontractors and project stakeholders
  • A proactive, delivery-focused mindset

Strong profiles often have:

  • M&E QS or Assistant QS experience stepping up
  • A technical background (engineering, trades, or building services)
  • Solid grounding in subcontractor management and procurement

The Offer

  • £65,000 – £75,000 salary (depending on experience)
  • Or £350/day freelance option
  • Long-term pipeline with opportunity to continue beyond this project
  • Growing contractor investing heavily in its electrical division

Why This Role

  • Genuine site-based opportunity with ownership and influence
  • Part of a business expanding its in-house electrical capability
  • Exposure to a high-value, technically demanding project
  • Clear route into ongoing work if you want stability

Bottom line

You'll do well here if you’re a QS who:

  • Prefers being close to the build
  • Understands M&E beyond spreadsheets
  • And can confidently operate under NEC
