Salary/Package - £60,000 - £65,000 + Package

Our client is a well-established specialist construction contractor with extensive experience delivering acoustic, soundproofing, flooring and specialist building solutions across the UK.

The business operates across a wide range of sectors including commercial, residential, education, hospitality and leisure, working with major contractors, developers and end clients.

Its specialist services include acoustic flooring, sound absorption, soundproofing, raised access flooring and underfloor heating solutions.

With an established project portfolio and a strong reputation within the specialist construction sector, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join a growing commercial team.



The Role

Our client is looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their commercial team in Preston.

This is a varied position combining estimating, quantity surveying and commercial management, with responsibility for pricing projects, managing costs and supporting projects from initial enquiry through to completion.

You will work closely with clients, main contractors, project teams, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure projects are accurately priced and commercially managed.



Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing accurate and competitive estimates for specialist construction projects

  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation

  • Carrying out detailed quantity take-offs and measurements

  • Producing detailed cost plans and pricing schedules

  • Obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations

  • Preparing tender submissions and commercial proposals

  • Reviewing project scope and identifying potential risks and opportunities

  • Supporting value engineering and alternative design solutions

  • Managing project costs from contract award through to completion

  • Monitoring project budgets, variations and changes

  • Preparing and submitting valuations and applications for payment

  • Managing variations and additional works

  • Reviewing costs against budgets and identifying areas of commercial risk

  • Assisting with final accounts and commercial close-out

  • Working closely with operational teams to ensure projects remain commercially viable

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and the supply chain

  • Supporting the wider commercial and business development teams where required



The Ideal Candidate

The successful Quantity Surveyor / Estimator will ideally have:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator or QS/Estimator

  • Experience within the construction or specialist subcontracting sector

  • Strong estimating and commercial management experience

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications

  • Experience producing detailed cost build-ups and tenders

  • Strong understanding of construction costs, labour, materials and subcontractor pricing

  • Experience managing variations and final accounts

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Commercially astute with a strong understanding of project profitability

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Good IT and Microsoft Office skills

  • Experience within acoustic, flooring, fit-out, interiors or another specialist construction sector would be advantageous

  • Relevant Quantity Surveying / Construction qualification would be beneficial but not essential
