Quantity Surveyor – Major National Grid Infrastructure Project

Location: Rugeley, Staffordshire (primarily site-based) with occasional office days in Derbyshire
Rate: £360–£400 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract: Long-term Contract
Start: Immediate

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a specialist civil engineering subcontractor delivering works on a major National Grid infrastructure project.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key commercial role on the replacement and relocation of a 132kV substation, supporting the delivery of a nationally significant energy scheme. You'll join an experienced project team working on complex civil engineering works within the UK's electricity transmission network.

The Role

You'll take ownership of the commercial management of the project, working closely with the site and operational teams to ensure successful commercial delivery from start to finish.

This is a predominantly site-based position, so we're looking for someone who enjoys being close to project delivery and building strong relationships on site.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing NEC3 & NEC4 contracts.
  • Preparing, pricing and negotiating Compensation Events.
  • Administering Early Warning Notices.
  • Valuing completed works and preparing applications for payment.
  • Cost forecasting, budgeting and commercial reporting.
  • Managing subcontractor accounts and commercial performance.
  • Contract administration and ensuring NEC compliance.
  • Supporting risk reduction meetings.
  • Managing commercial risks and resolving contractual issues.
  • Working collaboratively with both the client and wider project delivery teams.
About You

We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background in civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor on major infrastructure or civil engineering schemes.
  • Strong NEC3 & NEC4 contract knowledge.
  • Excellent understanding of Compensation Events.
  • Experience working for either a principal contractor or specialist subcontractor.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • The confidence to manage client relationships and work autonomously.
  • Experience within Power, Utilities, Energy, National Grid or Transmission projects would be highly advantageous.

If you're an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for your next Outside IR35 opportunity on a major infrastructure project, I'd be keen to hear from you.
