Take the Lead on Major Water Infrastructure Projects
A leading UK Civil Engineering contractor is looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team, supporting the delivery of projects across the South West Water AMP8 framework.
Working on a varied portfolio of civil engineering and utility schemes, you'll play a key role in ensuring projects remain commercially successful from start to finish. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a family-owned business that continues to invest in its people, innovative delivery methods and sustainable infrastructure.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll take ownership of the commercial performance across multiple projects, working closely with operational and planning teams to maximise profitability, control costs and maintain strong contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce weekly cost and revenue reports to monitor commercial performance.
- Manage the submission and commercial control of completed works.
- Prepare and maintain Schedule of Rates for high-volume engineering activities.
- Reconcile subcontractor accounts and prepare payment certificates.
- Work closely with Operations and Planning teams to monitor project progress, variations and changes in scope.
- Review project performance to ensure commercial objectives and forecasts remain on track.
- Accurately value and price completed works.
- Attend client Work in Progress (WIP) meetings and provide commercial input.
- Analyse weekly and monthly financial data to support commercial decision-making.
- Identify risks and opportunities while maintaining robust cost control throughout delivery.
You'll be an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong commercial background in utilities or civil engineering, capable of managing multiple projects while building positive relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the utilities or civil engineering sector.
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Experience managing subcontractors and high-volume engineering works.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Excellent commercial awareness and financial reporting experience.
- The confidence to challenge, influence and resolve commercial issues.
- Strong analytical, communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to mentor and support junior commercial team members.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with excellent attention to detail.
- A full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to project sites when required.
