Quantity Surveyor – Birmingham

Salary: Up to £70,000 + Package
A well-established refurbishment contractor is looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team, supporting social housing refurbishment programmes across Birmingham.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in social housing, refurbishment or planned maintenance, ideally with experience delivering Decent Homes programmes across both void and tenanted properties.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of refurbishment projects, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Teams, clients and supply chain.
- Manage the commercial performance of social housing refurbishment projects.
- Take responsibility for budgets, valuations, variations, payments and final accounts.
- Manage subcontractor procurement, accounts and payments.
- Prepare and submit valuations and applications for payment.
- Monitor project costs, forecasts and cash flow.
- Manage variations and ensure all changes are properly valued and agreed.
- Produce regular commercial reports and cost/value reconciliations.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure projects remain commercially controlled.
- Liaise with clients and housing associations regarding commercial matters.
- Support the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Ensure contractual and commercial procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous Quantity Surveying experience within social housing, refurbishment or planned maintenance.
- Strong experience working on Decent Homes programmes.
- Experience across both void and tenanted properties.
- Knowledge of kitchen, bathroom and external refurbishment works.
- Strong understanding of subcontractor management and procurement.
- Experience managing valuations, variations, payments and final accounts.
- Good commercial and contractual knowledge.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong IT and Excel skills.
- A relevant Quantity Surveying qualification or equivalent experience.
