Our Civils specialist subcontractor client is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join they Horton based team (near Heathrow) on a permanent basis supporting across all of their projects.
Our client is delivering essential infrastructure and engineering projects across a range of sectors including specialist civils projects on Thames Water, HS2 and Southern Water to name a few. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the successful commercial management of complex projects while contributing to the continued growth of the business.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing costs, contracts, and commercial performance across multiple projects, ensuring profitability and value for both the business and end clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from inception through to final account.
- Prepare, review, and administer subcontract agreements and procurement packages.
- Undertake cost forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Manage valuations, applications for payment, and variations.
- Assess and negotiate subcontractor accounts and final accounts.
- Monitor project costs and identify opportunities to maximise value and commercial performance.
- Prepare monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and commercial reviews.
- Support project teams with contract administration and commercial advice.
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement within the commercial function.
Skills/experience/qualifications
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, construction, or engineering projects.
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3 and/or NEC4 preferred).
- Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills.
- Experience preparing and managing subcontract packages.
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Ability to interpret contractual documentation and manage change control processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Chartered status (MRICS) or working towards professional accreditation.
- Experience working on airport, utilities, highways, infrastructure, or major civil engineering projects.
- Knowledge of JCT contracts.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
