The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major engineering project delivery team. Whilst experience within the nuclear sector would be advantageous, we are open to candidates from infrastructure, construction, utilities, energy, rail, defence, or other highly regulated industries. The successful candidate will have strong commercial and contract management experience, particularly around change management, compensation events, subcontract management, and NEC contracts. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure commercial compliance, maximise value, and minimise commercial risk throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercial support across project delivery, including change control, compensation events, contractual notices, and commercial governance.
- Manage and administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
- Identify, price, negotiate, and agree compensation events and project variations.
- Administer Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and contractual communications.
- Support procurement and tendering activities, ensuring robust subcontractor engagement.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier commercial performance throughout project delivery.
- Review and certify applications for payment, invoices, and final accounts.
- Monitor and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and internal governance procedures.
- Maintain commercial records, change registers, and associated management systems such as CEMAR.
- Support Project Managers with all commercial and contractual matters.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within engineering, construction, infrastructure, utilities, defence, energy, or nuclear environments.
- Strong understanding of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
- Proven experience managing compensation events, variations, and change control processes.
- Experience working with both client-side and contractor/supplier-side commercial arrangements.
- Strong subcontract management experience.
- Experience managing commercial risk and contract compliance.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work within complex project environments and manage multiple commercial priorities.
- Nuclear industry experience.
- Experience using CEMAR.
- Experience supporting major projects or programmes.
- Understanding of regulated or highly-compliant industries.
- Experience managing complex supply chains and subcontractor claims.
