Quantity Surveyor – Highways Project

The Role
Our client, Taylor Woodrow, a leading infrastructure and civil engineering specialist, is seeking a talented Quantity Surveyor to join the team on a major highways project in Southend, Essex.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure works while supporting the commercial success of the project.
You will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of a project or section of a larger scheme, ensuring strong cost control, contract compliance, and value optimisation throughout the project lifecycle. This role will have a strong emphasis on subcontract management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage commercial activities across the project, supporting the Project Manager and Commercial Lead
- Administer contracts with a strong focus on NEC (Option A preferred)
- Lead subcontract procurement, including tendering, evaluation, and appointment
- Prepare valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
- Monitor project costs, forecasts, and cash flow to maximise financial performance
- Implement robust change control processes, ensuring recovery of all variations and compensation events
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
- Produce accurate CVRs, reports, and forecasts
- Manage subcontractor accounts, payments, and contractual notices
- Work collaboratively with delivery teams to drive project success
About You
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or highways projects
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (Option A essential/preferred)
- Experience managing subcontractors and commercial processes end-to-end
- Solid understanding of cost control, forecasting, and reporting
- Ability to identify risks, manage change, and protect commercial position
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ideally degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related field
