Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum

Location: Waltham Abbey, Essex

Position: Full-time, Permanent

A specialist roofing and cladding contractor is looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor – Roofing & Cladding to join its established commercial team.

This is a hands-on commercial role covering projects from commencement through to completion, with responsibility for applications, variations, cost reporting, contractual matters, subcontract procurement and commercial risk. The company delivers technically detailed roofing, cladding and façade packages across the UK, giving the Quantity Surveyor – Roofing & Cladding exposure to a varied portfolio rather than one repetitive type of project.

Salary and Package

• £55,000 – £65,000 depending on experience

• 28 days’ holiday including bank holidays

This is primarily an office and project-based position, with approximately one day per week spent visiting sites to assess progress, maintain accurate records and support monthly commercial reporting.

The business is an established specialist contractor working across hard metal roofing, cladding, façades and flat roofing for commercial and residential projects. Its work covers the full process from design and technical development through to procurement, fabrication and installation.

Projects can involve standing seam zinc and copper, composite roofing and cladding, rainscreen systems, flat roofing, green and brown roofs, full through-wall build-ups, SFS framing and preformed aluminium. The company also provides in-house design support, detailed drawings, programmes, costing information and structural calculations where required.

The project portfolio ranges from technically detailed architectural roofing and cladding schemes through to major multi-discipline packages. Previous work has included education, residential, infrastructure, commercial and public-building projects, including packages involving full façade and roofing design responsibility and BIM.

About the Role

The Quantity Surveyor – Roofing & Cladding will take commercial and financial responsibility across several projects, working closely with internal teams, clients, contractors and the supply chain from project commencement through to final account.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing applications for payment, pricing variations and maintaining accurate cost reports, reconciliations and forecasts.

• Managing contractual requirements including Early Warning Notices, Extension of Time requests and other project-specific commercial notices.

• Reviewing site progress, labour schedules and construction information against tender documentation, identifying and recording changes to scope.

• Procuring subcontract packages, compiling subcontract orders and managing commercial matters with subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.

• Identifying commercial risk, protecting cash flow and profitability, and maintaining productive relationships with clients, client representatives and the supply chain.

Candidate Background

The company is looking for an established Quantity Surveyor who understands the commercial realities of subcontract construction rather than somebody coming purely from a consultancy environment.

For the Quantity Surveyor – Roofing & Cladding position, the key requirements are:

• Minimum four years’ experience within Quantity Surveying or a commercial construction role.

• Degree qualified, ideally to a minimum 2:1 classification.

• Good understanding of construction subcontracts, particularly NEC3; JCT Design & Build knowledge is also useful.

• Roofing, cladding, façade, external-envelope or flat-roofing experience is preferred.

• Strong commercial record keeping, cost control and ability to identify contractual and financial risk.

• Full UK driving licence. A CSCS card is desirable but not essential.
