Quantity Surveyor

Tailor Recruitment Ltd

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing residential construction and development business with an exciting pipeline of projects across the North West.

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role for someone who wants to take real ownership of project performance and have a direct influence on commercial decision-making.

You’ll be involved from procurement and cost planning through to valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts, working closely with the site and contracts teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and commercially successfully.

This is not a role where you'll simply produce reports from behind a desk. We’re looking for someone who understands construction, gets involved, asks the right questions and spots commercial issues before they become problems.

What we are looking for

We'd like to hear from Quantity Surveyors who have a strong practical and commercial understanding of the construction industry and can demonstrate:

  • Experience working for a main contractor, residential developer or developer-contractor.

  • Strong experience in subcontractor procurement and account management.

  • Proven experience managing project budgets, valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts.

  • Good knowledge of JCT contracts and construction payment processes.

  • Strong commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge costs, scope and inaccurate or incomplete information.

  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.

  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail.

  • A proactive, hands-on approach with clear and timely reporting.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with construction teams while maintaining strong commercial control.

  • Experience in residential apartments, conversions, refurbishment or new-build projects would be particularly relevant.

A Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related qualification is preferred, but strong practical construction and commercial experience will also be considered.

We’re looking for someone who is commercially sharp but also understands what happens on site.

You'll be someone who:

  • Takes ownership rather than waiting to be asked.

  • Is comfortable working with figures, contracts and commercial detail.

  • Can build strong working relationships with subcontractors and internal teams.

  • Has the confidence to challenge decisions when the commercial position requires it.

  • Thinks ahead and identifies risks before they become costly problems.

  • Can communicate commercial information clearly to both construction teams and senior management.

  • Is comfortable balancing competing priorities in a fast-moving project environment.

  • Takes pride in getting the detail right.

Most importantly, you'll want to be part of a growing business where your contribution is visible and your commercial judgement is valued.

What You'll Get in Return

  • £60,000–£75,000 salary, depending on experience.

  • Car allowance.

  • Performance-related bonus.

  • Company pension.

  • Annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays.

  • Permanent, full-time employment.

  • Direct exposure to senior management and project decision-making.

  • A strong pipeline of residential projects across the North West.

  • Genuine career progression as the business continues to grow.

  • The opportunity to influence and improve commercial systems and processes.

  • A varied, project-facing role with meaningful responsibility and autonomy.
