R&D Advanced Power Systems Technician
Peterborough | £26.92 per hour | Inside IR35 | 12-month contract | 5 days onsite
We're looking for an experienced R&D / Test Technician to join an advanced power systems team based in Peterborough.
This is a hands-on role working across a range of powertrain development projects, including E-motor testing, hybrid powertrain development, transmission programmes, new powertrain technologies and test bed activities.
You'll be working closely with engineers and other technicians, carrying out build, strip and rebuild work, testing components and systems, fault finding and diagnostics, as well as reviewing test results and feeding back to the wider engineering team.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out build, strip, measurement and rebuild activities on powertrain and electrification components
- Supporting engine, transmission, hybrid and electric motor testing
- Operating test beds and associated software and diagnostic equipment
- Carrying out electrical safety checks and working with electrical/electronic systems
- Diagnosing faults and supporting repair and problem-solving activities
- Recording measurements, test results and technical issues
- Working from engineering instructions, drawings and test plans
- Supporting engineers with data analysis and technical investigations
- Raising issues around build and test activities and helping drive improvements
- Working closely with internal teams to keep projects moving and deliver testing to required timescales
What we're looking for
You'll ideally have completed a Modern Apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience afterwards.
We're particularly interested in technicians with experience in areas such as:
- Mechanical fitting and assembly
- Electrical/electronic systems
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Build, strip, repair and rebuild
- Engine, transmission or powertrain testing
- Test bed operation and data logging
- Working to engineering drawings and technical instructions
Experience with electric motors, hybrid systems, high-voltage systems, transmissions or powertrain development would be useful, although training on internal systems is available.
