R&D Technician

Rate: £27 per hour Umbrella (Inside IR35) OR £19.75 PAYE

Duration: 12 months (likely to extend)

Hours: 37 hours per week, typically 07:30–16:00

We are looking for an R&D Technician to join a leading engineering team in Peterborough, supporting the development and testing of next-generation powertrain technologies.

This is a hands-on R&D position offering exposure to electrification, e-motors, hybrid powertrains, transmissions and diesel technologies, as well as prototype build, testing and test-bed development.

Responsibilities:

• Build, strip, inspect and rebuild powertrain, electrification, diesel and hybrid components.
• Support e-motor, hybrid and transmission development programmes.
• Carry out testing activities using test-bed software and follow detailed engineering test plans.
• Perform electrical safety checks including insulation resistance, ground bonding and Hi-Pot testing.
• Use diagnostic and service tools, including CAN-based systems, to support testing and fault diagnosis.

Requirements:

You’ll ideally have an apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with some hands-on experience.
