Reception Teaching Assistant – SEN Support
Location: Islington, London
Pay: £101.50 - £110 per day
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term Temporary
Start Date: September 2026

Are you an enthusiastic Reception Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington is seeking a dedicated Reception Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team from September. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a supportive school with a strong SEN provision, helping young learners develop confidence, independence and a love of learning during this crucial stage of their education.

The Role

As a Reception Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to pupils with SEN through 1:1 and small-group interventions, helping them access learning, develop communication skills and thrive within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for Reception pupils with SEN.
• Support children in accessing learning, routines and classroom activities.
• Implement strategies and targets set by the Class Teacher and SENCo.
• Model high-quality spoken language to support communication and early literacy development.
• Contribute creative, play-based learning ideas that promote engagement and independence.
• Support pupils emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and families to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.

About You
• Experience supporting children in EYFS or KS1 settings.
• SEN experience in either mainstream or specialist provisions is highly desirable.
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Strong spoken English and excellent communication skills.
• Creative, proactive and enthusiastic approach to supporting young learners.
• A genuine passion for Early Years education and inclusion.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training. Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
