Regional Operations Manager
Environmental Field Services company - Worcester
Full time, permanent
Salary: £45,000 plus company vehicle.
We are a specialist environmental field services business. We install, maintain and certify the monitors and data loggers that tell water companies what is actually happening inside their networks, from live foul and storm sewers to rivers, reservoirs and culverts. That data is what allows our clients to understand their assets, build resilience and cut pollution.
The scale of it: more than 4,000 monitors maintained every month, over 100 vans on the road across the UK, and more than 240 people. We are accredited by CHAS, SMAS, Achilles and FORS, and certified to ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001. In plain terms, we do this properly and we do it safely.
Due to expansion, we are looking for a Regional Operations Manager to take charge of our day-to-day operations across the region. .
You'll manage and develop our Supervisors and Field Site Staff, drive performance against KPIs, and set the standard for Health & Safety across every site you're responsible for. You'll also be a key point of contact for our clients, so you'll need to be as comfortable in a client meeting as you are on site.
What you'll be doing
Managing, supporting and developing Supervisors and Field Site Staff across the region
Monitoring team performance, productivity and quality of work, and acting where standards slip
Tracking KPIs and targets, and reporting on regional performance to the Operations Director
Coaching Supervisors to build their confidence, management skills and team results
Carrying out regular site and team visits to check working practices and standards
Leading on Health & Safety: enforcing policies, RAMS and safe systems of work, running H&S checks and challenging unsafe practice
Making sure incidents and near misses are reported, investigated and followed up properly
Identifying training and competency gaps and making sure they're closed
Handling performance, attendance and conduct issues, including disciplinary matters alongside HR
Resolving operational problems and customer issues, and supporting Supervisors with the complex ones
Monitoring staffing levels and making sure teams are properly resourced
Attending client and management meetings to discuss performance, ongoing work and future requirements
Finding practical ways to improve productivity and efficiency, and sharing good practice across teams
What we're looking for
Proven experience managing people in a field-based environment — utilities, environmental services or similar
Experience managing Supervisors or Team Leaders is an advantage
Strong Health & Safety knowledge, and the credibility to lead by example
Confidence dealing with performance, conduct and disciplinary issues
A good grasp of KPIs and targets, and what to do when the numbers aren't where they should be
Organised enough to juggle several teams and issues at once
A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
Someone who can motivate teams and get the best out of people
Professional and confident representing the company to clients
A full UK driving licence (essential)
