Job Description.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding
● Comply with Safeguarding Children’s procedures at all times and promote an honest and open culture;
ensuring all safeguarding risks are acted upon immediately and the relevant action taken to mitigate the risk.
Health and Safety
● Comply with the Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times
● Ensure that the service meets the mandated training and Health and Safety compliance targets
General
● Manage a fully compliant service in respect of all relevant legislation and regulation
● Ensure the financial viability of the service in line with Ofsted requirements
● Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures at all times
● Promote and ensure the good reputation of the organisation at all times
● Always act in a professional manner, operating with integrity, respecting individuals and maintaining confidentiality
● Participate in the managers ‘out of hours’ on-call rota
Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Care and Quality
● Demonstrate passion and commitment to excellent support and quality
● As a Registered Manager, ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations, company policies and procedures and all standards at all times, achieving and maintaining an Ofsted rating of at least ‘Good’, with Outstanding being the goal
● Ensure that the highest standards of person-centred childcare that is focussed on obtaining the best outcomes for each child / young person within the home.
● Demonstrate evidence of quality assurance and best practice
Leadership and Management
● Provide leadership and coaching in childcare practice within the home to ensure best outcomes for children / young people, actively promoting a culture of high performance
● Demonstrate strong and effective leadership and people management at all times
● Inspire, motivate and build a highly skilled and engaged workforce with a strong commitment to nurturing staff potential and developing skills
● Wholly responsible for ensuring that resources, including staff, are effectively deployed to optimise service delivery
● Provide feedback to the Operations Director regarding service affairs including staff performance, reporting of incidences, sharing knowledge or making suggestions to improve service
● Demonstrate excellent communication with all internal and external stakeholders
Business and Commercial Performance
● Accountability for effectively managing financial viability and for meeting and, where possible, exceeding agreed targets
● Positively promote and market the service
● Establish, develop and utilise excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
● Take the lead on management of enquires, referrals and new business in partnerships, supported by the Partnerships & communication lead
● Contribute to the overall success of the organisation Continuous Improvement and Innovation
● Lead a culture of continuous improvement and development with a strong focus on best practice
● Promote a learning organisation culture and commit to personal and workforce skills’ development
● Proactively seek opportunities for innovation in order to maintain sustainable and resilient business
● Acknowledge, celebrate and share success
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will need to be approved by the appropriate statutory body. This will require full Ofsted registration in accordance with their respective conditions and timescales.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
The successful Candidate will need to be able to meet the requirements of regulation 28 of the Children’s Home (England) Regulations 2015:
Fitness of manager – regulation 28
(1) A person may only manage a children’s home if—
(a)the person is of integrity and good character;
(b)having regard to the size of the home, its statement of purpose, and the number and needs (including any needs arising from any disability) of the children—
i. the person has the appropriate experience, qualification and skills to manage the home effectively and lead the care of children; and
ii. the person is physically and mentally fit to manage the home; and
(c) full and satisfactory information is available in relation to the person in respect of each of the matters in Schedule
(a)within the last 5 years, worked for at least 2 years in a position relevant to the residential care of children;
(b)worked for at least one year in a role requiring the supervision and management of staff working in a care role; and
(c)by the relevant date, attained—
i. the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) (“the Level 5 Diploma”);
or ii. a qualification which the registered provider considers to be equivalent to the Level 5 Diploma.
(3) The relevant date is—
(a) in the case of a person who starts managing a home after 1st April 2014, the date which falls 3 years after the date on which that person started managing a home;
or (b) in the case of a person who was managing a home on 1st April 2014, 1st April 2017.
(4) The registered provider may defer the relevant date if the person—
(a) does not manage, or has not managed, a home for a prolonged period;
or (b) manages, or has managed, a home on a part-time basis
