Registered Manager - Children’s Residential Home

Are you an experienced Deputy Manager in a children’s home and ready for your first Registered Manager role?

This could be the right move if you are already leading staff, dealing with safeguarding, supporting Ofsted preparation, managing care plans and helping keep the home running day to day, but you are now ready to take that next step properly.

We are recruiting for a Registered Manager to lead a children’s residential home in Slough, supporting young people aged 11 to 17 with emotional, behavioural and trauma-related needs.

This is not aimed only at people who have already been registered before. We are very open to speaking with strong Deputy Managers who understand children’s residential care and feel ready to step into a Registered Manager post with support around them.

The role

You will take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the home. That includes staff management, safeguarding, compliance, care planning, Ofsted readiness and making sure the home is safe, structured and child-focused.

The home needs someone steady, organised and confident. Someone who can lead from the front, keep standards high and support the team without losing sight of the young people at the centre of it.

If you are a Deputy Manager who wants progression, but also wants to join somewhere that will support that step up, this is worth looking at.

Main duties

  • Lead the day-to-day running of the children’s residential home.
  • Support, supervise and develop the staff team.
  • Promote a safe, stable and child-focused home environment.
  • Keep the home compliant with Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
  • Lead strong safeguarding and child protection practice.
  • Oversee care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Maintain high standards across records, audits and home documentation.
  • Prepare the home for audits, Regulation 45 reports and Ofsted inspections.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for an experienced Deputy Manager, Assistant Manager or strong senior leader from a children’s residential care background.

You may already be the person others come to when the home is under pressure. You may be covering management duties, supporting rotas, handling incidents, mentoring staff or helping prepare for Ofsted.

You do not need to have already held Ofsted registration. What matters is that you understand children’s homes, know what good care looks like and are ready to take ownership of a home.

The right person will be calm, consistent and practical. You will be able to hold boundaries, support staff, build trust with young people and keep the home moving in the right direction.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a children’s residential home.
  • Current or previous Deputy Manager, Assistant Manager or senior leadership experience.
  • Good knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Confident with Ofsted standards, audits and care documentation.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to complete.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting young people with EBD, trauma or complex needs.
  • Experience mentoring staff, leading shifts or supporting service improvement.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, PACE or attachment-based approaches.
  • Experience supporting Ofsted inspections.

What’s on offer

  • Salary from £44,100 per year, depending on experience.
  • Full-time, permanent Registered Manager role.
  • Genuine step-up opportunity for an experienced Deputy Manager.
  • Support from senior leadership.
  • Training and professional development.
  • Opportunity to lead a children’s home and shape the team culture.

Important

Sponsorship is not available for this role. You must already have the right to work in the UK.
