This role would suit an experienced Registered Manager or Deputy Manager who is looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the leadership, management, quality and regulatory compliance of the home, ensuring residents receive safe, high-quality and personalised care.
Candidates MUST have previous experience working within an elderly residential care home. This is an essential requirement for the position.
The Registered Manager will be contracted to work a 4-day week, 8:00am–6:00pm, Monday–Sunday, working alternate weekends with on-call responsibilities during those weekends. The Assistant Manager shares the weekend working responsibilities with the Registered Manager and also works alternate weekends with on-call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities of the Registered Manager
- Take overall responsibility for the leadership, management and day-to-day operation of the care home.
- Act as the registered person with CQC and ensure the home remains compliant with all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Maintain high standards of safe, effective, responsive and well-led care.
- Lead, motivate and develop the care team, promoting accountability, teamwork and professional standards.
- Oversee care planning, risk assessments, medication management, infection prevention and control, safeguarding and other regulated care activities.
- Ensure effective systems are in place for audits, quality monitoring and continuous improvement.
- Monitor accidents, incidents, safeguarding concerns, complaints and other quality indicators, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
- Build strong and constructive relationships with residents, families, representatives and external professionals.
- Ensure residents receive personalised care that reflects their individual needs, preferences, choices and rights.
- Support effective recruitment, induction, training, competency, supervision, appraisal and development of colleagues.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, rota cover and management arrangements are in place across the home.
- Maintain oversight of housekeeping, maintenance, activities, catering and the overall environment of the home.
- Prepare the home for CQC inspections, reviews and external monitoring visits.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, community nurses, pharmacists, social workers, commissioners, regulators and other professionals.
- Support occupancy, enquiries and admissions while ensuring prospective residents and families have a positive experience.
- Manage resources responsibly and support budgetary control and rota efficiency.
- Work closely with the Assistant Manager and senior colleagues to ensure delegated responsibilities are completed consistently and to the required standard.
- Promote a positive, professional, welcoming and accountable culture across the service.
- Previous management experience within an elderly care home.
- Strong understanding of CQC requirements and the Fundamental Standards.
- Good knowledge of safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act, DoLS and best interests decision-making.
- Proven experience leading and developing care teams.
- Strong understanding of care planning, risk assessment and quality assurance.
- Experience managing concerns, complaints, incidents and safeguarding matters.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
