Salary: £32,000 - £42,000 + Benefits
An established environmental and engineering consultancy is looking to recruit a Remediation Scientist to join its growing contaminated land team in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a wide variety of brownfield redevelopment, infrastructure and industrial projects, delivering practical and sustainable remediation solutions across the UK.
As a Remediation Scientist, you will play a key role in delivering contaminated land and remediation projects from initial site investigation through to remediation and verification. Working within a multidisciplinary environmental team, you will undertake technical assessments, support the design of remediation strategies and oversee remediation works on a variety of brownfield, infrastructure and industrial developments.
The role will involve working on a range of contaminants, including hydrocarbons, heavy metals and emerging contaminants such as PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances). You will contribute to the design and implementation of sustainable remediation solutions, undertake soil and groundwater sampling, review laboratory data and prepare remediation verification reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with the design and delivery of remediation projects for contaminated land sites
- Preparing remediation strategies, method statements and verification reports
- Interpreting environmental, geological and chemical data
- Supervising remediation works and earthworks on site
- Undertaking soil, groundwater and ground gas sampling where required
- Liaising with contractors, clients and regulatory authorities
- Supporting project delivery, programme management and budget control
- Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with health, safety and environmental legislation
- Contributing to technical reports and risk assessments
Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Geology, Geology, Chemistry or a related discipline
- Experience working within contaminated land, remediation or geoenvironmental consultancy
- Knowledge of contaminated land legislation and risk assessment methodologies
- Experience preparing technical reports and interpreting site investigation data
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience supervising remediation contractors on site
- Knowledge of earthworks management and waste classification (WM3)
- Working towards Chartership with a relevant professional institution
- Experience with brownfield redevelopment or large infrastructure projects
