Research and Development Associate (Glasshouse based)

Our client, a leading organisation in the horticultural sector, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Research and Development Associate to join their dynamic team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day production and maintenance of plant and seed materials, ensuring they meet customer standards and promptly addressing any issues that arise.
  • Conduct experimental work both independently and collaboratively, utilising established and novel screening methods.
  • Maintain plants under glasshouse conditions for the duration of testing, ensuring optimal growth and health.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Support Team to uphold high levels of customer support and satisfaction.
  • Develop your technical knowledge and skills by engaging with a variety of production techniques.
  • Identify areas for efficiency improvements and actively participate in problem-solving discussions with team members and supervisors.
  • Keep records and databases updated with precision and accuracy.
  • Embrace a continuous improvement mindset, contributing to the enhancement of screening methods and processes.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all safety procedures and HSE regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with DEFRA, CBD, QMS, and HSE regulations regarding genetically modified organisms and licenced plant materials.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic with a focus on consistency and accountability in all tasks.
  • Potential involvement in test planning as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of plant biology; familiarity with seed production and horticultural techniques is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication abilities.
  • Quick learner with a proactive attitude, both as a self-starter and a team player.
  • Exceptional self-management and time management capabilities.
  • HND level in Horticulture or a minimum of 2 years' experience in Horticulture or Seed Supply is preferred.
