Residential Property Solicitor / Head of Conveyancing

We are looking for an experienced conveyancing solicitor or senior conveyancer to take a leading role within our busy Hatfield office.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to do more than manage their own caseload. You will have a hands-on leadership role, overseeing the conveyancing team, managing the day-to-day running of the office and working closely with the firm's owner to help drive the business forward.

If you are an experienced fee earner who is ready to take the next step into management, we would also like to hear from you.

Your time will be split between fee earning, team management and running the office.

You will:

• Manage a busy caseload, primarily residential sales and purchases.
• Deal with other residential property matters.
• Handle commercial property and commercial conveyancing when required.
• Manage and supervise paralegals and administrative staff.
• Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the office.
• Set priorities and make sure work is progressing efficiently.
• Maintain high standards of legal work, file management and compliance.
• Monitor team productivity, billing and profitability.
• Help improve efficiency and maximise department revenue.
• Manage client expectations and ensure clients receive regular updates.
• Deal professionally with difficult situations and client concerns.
• Work closely with the firm's owner on the effective running of the practice.
• Help develop the firm's property offering and identify new business opportunities.
• Work with the litigation and probate teams where matters overlap.
• Take responsibility for relevant SRA roles and responsibilities, including COLP and COFA.

We're looking for someone who is experienced, confident and commercially minded.

You should have:

• Strong experience in residential conveyancing.
• Experience dealing with a busy caseload.
• The ability to handle commercial property matters when required.
• A strong track record as a fee earner.
• Previous experience managing a team, department or office would be a major advantage.
• Alternatively, you may be a senior conveyancer ready to step into management.
• Strong client-care and communication skills.
• The confidence to set expectations and hold colleagues accountable.
• Excellent organisation and file-management skills.
• A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
• A strong understanding of billing, profitability and efficient case management.
• The ability to balance your own caseload with management and regulatory responsibilities.
• A proactive attitude and the ability to get up to speed with systems quickly.

You don't need to be the finished product, and you don't necessarily need to have held a formal management title before. What matters is that you have the experience and confidence to take responsibility, make decisions and lead from the front.

You should be comfortable working in a busy, high-volume environment, managing your own files while making sure the wider team is performing and clients are receiving an excellent service.
