Salary: £14.75 – £15.25 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week
Location: Milton Keynes

About the Role

Our client provides high-quality children’s residential care for children and young people in the Milton Keynes area. The service is committed to providing safe, nurturing and child-centred care, supporting young people to develop confidence, independence and resilience.

The successful candidate will join a supportive team within a children’s home, helping young people with their day-to-day care, emotional wellbeing, education and personal development.

This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and resilient Residential Support Worker who is passionate about supporting children and young people and helping them achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality residential childcare and support in line with individual care plans.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with children and young people based on trust, respect and consistency.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
  • Support education, health appointments, activities, life skills and independence.
  • Provide emotional, practical and social support to meet individual needs.
  • Support personal care, medication and daily routines where required and appropriately trained.
  • Promote positive behaviour using agreed strategies, including Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches where appropriate.
  • Support young people who may have complex emotional, behavioural or additional needs.
  • Complete accurate records, reports, handovers and other required documentation.
  • Contribute to care planning, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Undertake Key Worker responsibilities for allocated children and young people.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming and homely environment.
  • Support with meals, household tasks and activities.
  • Work closely with social workers, families, schools, local authorities, healthcare professionals and other agencies.
  • Attend supervision, team meetings and mandatory training.
  • Work flexibly as part of the home's rota, including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins where required.
  • Follow all safeguarding, child protection, regulatory and organisational requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare / Children & Young People, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • A caring, patient and resilient approach.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, care plans and risk assessments.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

Previous experience working with children and young people, particularly within children’s residential care or residential childcare.

Experience supporting young people with emotional, behavioural or complex needs.

Experience managing or supporting challenging behaviour.

Knowledge of trauma-informed care or Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).

Experience acting as a Key Worker.

Good IT, organisational, record-keeping and report-writing skills.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.
