Rolling Stock Technician/ Train Rider

Infinitive Resources is recruiting qualified Rolling Stock Technicians to support the dynamic testing, fault identification and system-performance validation of the Class 810 fleet in Derby.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support dynamic testing and commissioning activities on Class 810 rolling stock.
  • Monitor train systems and equipment performance in real time.
  • Diagnose faults across electrical, mechanical and software-integrated systems.
  • Investigate defects affecting traction, doors, HVAC, toilets, catering equipment and train-control systems.
  • Conduct basic corrective actions and component replacements where required.
  • Support engineers with deeper root-cause investigations.
  • Accurately log, report and escalate faults identified during testing.
  • Capture detailed technical data and test results.
  • Work with engineering, testing, commissioning and depot teams to resolve defects.
  • Support functional, performance and system-validation testing.
  • Verify repairs and modifications through repeat testing.
  • Assist with fault resolution during fleet introduction and early service operation.
  • Complete technical documentation and engineering records accurately.
  • Contribute to reliability improvement and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Ensure all work complies with railway safety, quality and technical standards.

Applicants must have:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience working within rolling stock maintenance, testing, commissioning or fleet introduction.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working on electrical, mechanical or software-integrated train systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, drawings and test procedures.
  • Experience recording faults and completing technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure within a live testing environment.
  • A safety-focused and methodical approach to work.

Experience with traction systems, doors, HVAC, toilets, catering equipment, train-control systems or new-fleet introduction projects would be particularly advantageous.
