Overview

A leading provider of professional inspection, maintenance, and examination services for major UK infrastructure projects across rail and highways networks, as well as buildings, is seeking applicants for the role of Structures Examiner - Roped Access. With over 30 years of expertise and nationwide coverage, the organization specializes in delivering bespoke project support using specialist difficult access methods.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work on diverse, challenging, and rewarding projects, utilizing advanced access techniques to inspect and examine structures across the UK.



Responsibilities

The Structures Examiner - Roped Access will be responsible for:

  • Conducting structural inspections using specialist roped access techniques in accordance with technical standards and specifications.
  • Leading the safe and efficient execution of structural inspections, investigations, and surveys.
  • Preparing comprehensive inspection reports, including the creation of drawings with CAD software.
  • Ensuring all assigned tasks are performed safely, effectively, and within designated timelines.
  • Adhering to all health and safety regulations while helping maintain the company's commitment to zero accidents.
  • Verifying that all equipment, including personal protective gear, is properly maintained and safety-checked prior to usage.
  • Supporting additional duties within the scope and objectives of the role as needed.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Current IRATA certification.
  • STE 04 certification (preferred).
  • PTS and CSCS card (preferred).
  • Confined Space Entry certification (preferred).
  • SSSTS certification (preferred).
  • Proven experience in rail or highway inspections (e.g., bridges, culverts, retaining walls, ancillary structures).
  • Experience in building inspections.
  • Minimum education level: Level 3 qualification (A Level or equivalent).
  • Flexibility to travel and work night shifts and weekends as required.
  • A valid full UK driving license.


Day-to-Day Duties

Key daily responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with team members to conduct inspections on infrastructure projects (rail or road) and buildings.
  • Traveling nationwide with occasional work away from home between Monday and Friday.
  • Performing physical tasks such as rope ascension, de-vegetation, and walking along railway tracks.
  • Operating in demanding environments, including working at heights, within confined spaces, and near or over water.
  • Occasionally working independently on specific projects.
  • Following all Network Rail policies, which includes passing a pre-sponsorship medical examination as well as a drug and alcohol test.
