Science Teacher - Secondary SEMH School | September Start
Remedy Education is working with a secondary SEMH school in Leyton that is looking for a Science Teacher to join their team from September 2026.
This is a great opportunity for a teacher who enjoys working with young people and wants to teach in a setting where building relationships is just as important as delivering the curriculum.
The school supports students who may have found mainstream education difficult and need a more structured, supportive and personalised approach. You'll be teaching Science across KS3 and KS4, helping students develop their knowledge while also building their confidence and engagement with learning.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Planning and delivering Science lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics where appropriate
- Making lessons practical, engaging and accessible
- Adapting your teaching to suit different abilities and learning needs
- Building positive relationships with students and encouraging them to take part in lessons
- Managing behaviour calmly and consistently
- Creating a classroom environment where students feel safe and able to learn
- Supporting students working towards GCSEs and other qualifications
- Monitoring progress and adapting lessons where needed
- Working closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and the wider school team
- Helping students develop confidence, independence and a more positive attitude towards education
What We're Looking For
The school would like to hear from Science Teachers who:
- Hold QTS or QTLS
- Have a strong knowledge of Science
- Have experience teaching at secondary level
- Can manage challenging behaviour confidently and fairly
- Are patient, approachable and consistent
- Can build genuine relationships with students
- Are able to adapt their teaching when a lesson doesn't go to plan
- Have a positive attitude and are willing to get involved with the wider school
- Are passionate about helping young people who may have struggled in mainstream education
Previous experience in SEMH, SEN, PRU, AP or alternative education would be useful, but it isn't essential. The school is also open to hearing from mainstream Science Teachers who are interested in moving into an SEMH setting.
ECTs are welcome to apply.
