We are currently recruiting for a Science Technician to join an outstanding secondary school in London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Science Technician, Laboratory Technician, Science Laboratory Technician or School Science Technician to join a successful and supportive Science Department.

Science Technician - Key Responsibilities

  • Setting up laboratory equipment and apparatus for practical science experiments and demonstrations.
  • Preparing science resources and materials for daily KS3 and KS4 science lessons.
  • Supporting Science Teachers with practical demonstrations, experiments and laboratory activities.
  • Cleaning, organising and maintaining science laboratory equipment.
  • Preparing, mixing, storing and safely disposing of chemical solutions in line with relevant health and safety and COSHH procedures.
  • Checking and maintaining scientific equipment and reporting any faults or issues.
  • Ensuring science laboratories, preparation rooms and storage areas are clean, organised and safe.
  • Preparing materials for Biology, Chemistry and Physics practical lessons where required.
  • Maintaining appropriate stocks of chemicals, equipment and science resources.
  • Supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the secondary school Science Department.
  • Assisting with general administration, photocopying and preparation of teaching resources.
  • Following all school safeguarding, health and safety and laboratory procedures.

Science Technician - Person Specification

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working as a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician, Science Laboratory Technician or School Science Technician.

Experience working within a secondary school, sixth-form college, college, laboratory or scientific environment would be highly desirable.

You should have:

  • Experience preparing science experiments and practical lessons.
  • Good knowledge of laboratory equipment and scientific resources.An understanding of chemical handling, storage and disposal.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and laboratory health and safety procedures.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to prepare practical resources accurately and efficiently.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a busy Science Department.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
