The Role
As a Software Engineer in Test / SDET, you will get involved early in the product life cycle to ensure the correctness, robustness, and quality of our applications by driving a modern automation strategy.
This is an office-based position in Manchester that offers a vibrant tech community environment. You will balance advanced test automation with focused exploratory testing, working in a highly collaborative environment alongside developers, product managers, and non-technical stakeholders.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Framework Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable automated test suites using Playwright and TypeScript for web applications.
- Pipeline Integration: Embed automated Playwright tests directly into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, AWS, Azure) to enable continuous testing.
- Early Lifecycle Collaboration: Participate in "3 Amigos" sessions to design testability into features and define strict automation acceptance criteria.
- API & Data Validation: Construct robust API automation tests using tools like Postman alongside SQL database verification scripts.
- Advanced Test Strategies: Balance automated regression suites with focused, high-value exploratory and smoke testing for new features.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Review automated test execution logs, debug failures, and communicate technical risks clearly to developers and product stakeholders.
About You
We are looking for a nimble, adaptable SDET professional who values modern automation approaches and thrives on face-to-face team collaboration.
You'll ideally have:
- Core Testing Skills: Strong background in software testing methodologies (Exploratory, Smoke, Regression).
- Automation Expertise: Solid experience or exposure working with Playwright and TypeScript to build automation suites.
- API & Data Testing: Proven experience with API testing tools (Postman) and database management tools using SQL queries.
- CI/CD Knowledge: Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts and cloud environments (such as AWS, Azure, or Jenkins).
- Mobile & Web Tools (Desirable): Exposure to mobile testing, BrowserStack, or Google Analytics testing.
- Communication: Clear, precise communication skills with a commercial and critical-thinking mindset.
