Ongoing requirement

Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our Client, Coventry City Council for a Season Grass Cutter on a temporary basis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cut grass using pedestrian and ride-on mowers.
• Strim around obstacles, trees, headstones, fences, and borders.
• Trim and maintain hedges, shrubs, and small trees.
• Carry out pruning, planting, watering, and general horticultural tasks.
• Weed hard and soft landscaped areas using approved methods.
• Clean paths, roads, car parks, and public areas.
• Carry out cemetery maintenance
• Assist with setting up for funerals and other ceremonial events when requested.
• Operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery safely, including mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other powered equipment.
• Carry out daily vehicle and machinery inspections and report defects promptly.
• Maintain tools and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
• Work safely in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
• Report hazards, vandalism, defects, and health and safety concerns.
• Communicate professionally and courteously with members of the public, visitors, funeral directors, contractors, and colleagues.
• Undertake winter maintenance duties, including gritting and snow clearance where required.
• Assist with other duties appropriate to the role as directed by management.

Health and Safety

The post holder is responsible for:

• Following all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses.
• Operating machinery only when trained and authorised.
• Ensuring safe manual handling techniques are used.

Essential Requirements

• Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, or a similar role.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance machinery safely.
• Good knowledge of safe working practices.
• Physically fit and able to undertake manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Regular lifting, bending, kneeling, and manual handling.
• Use of noisy and vibrating machinery.
• Occasional weekend, bank holiday, or seasonal working may be required.
