Secondary SEN Tutor

Prospero Teaching are looking for SEN Tutors to support young people across South Tyneside who are currently out of mainstream education due to SEND, SEMH, school refusal, permanent exclusion or other barriers to learning.

You'll work on a 1:1 or small-group basis, supporting students with subjects such as Maths, English and Functional Skills. Many of the young people may have been out of school for some time, so building trust and creating a safe, positive learning environment is really important.

We're looking for tutors who are patient, understanding and flexible, with a genuine passion for helping young people build their confidence and re-engage with education.

Sessions will take place face-to-face in community settings across South Tyneside, such as youth centres, family hubs and community centres.

Your role with us:

• Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition in Maths and English, supporting with GCSE and Functional Skills Entry level 3, Level 1 or Level 2.
• Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps.
• Monitor student progress
• Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students re-build their confidence in learning.
• Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.

Role details:

• Pay rate up to £30 per hour depending on qualification and/or experience
• Up to 6 hours per week per student
• Start date: October 2026
• Location: South Tyneside
• Duration: ongoing, with the aim to reintegrate the student back into mainstream education
• Access to our Resource Hub, which includes learning materials
• Access to CPD accredited courses and training

To be eligible for the QTS Tutor role, you need:

• Previous experience working with young people with SEND such as young people with ADHD, SEMH and students who have been permanently excluded - this role is great for those with previous experience within a PRU.
• QTS or QTLS qualification
• Hold the right to work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
