Secondary Supply Teacher

September brings new timetables, unexpected staffing gaps and some of the best opportunities of the academic year.

Local Education is recruiting qualified Secondary Teachers who want flexible supply, long-term contracts or their next permanent position across South Essex.

Local Education is an independent Essex education recruitment agency and a GCA-approved supplier. Our approval is opening access to a growing number of school and academy trust partnerships, while our existing relationships continue to generate day-to-day, maternity, intervention and long-term teaching requirements.

We would like to hear from teachers specialising in:

- Mathematics
- English
- Biology, Chemistry, Physics or General Science
- Humanities and Religious Education
- Modern Foreign Languages
- Physical Education
- Business, Economics and Computing
- Design Technology, Art, Music and Performing Arts
- General secondary teaching and intervention

A better-prepared route into schools

We do not believe a teacher should arrive at an unfamiliar school with only an address and a start time.

Local Education works with partner schools to improve candidate preparation. Where school information is available, we can provide guidance on ethos, behaviour systems, safeguarding procedures and practical expectations before your first day.

This may include school-specific induction and concise reminders alongside your booking confirmation.

Our in-house training support also provides opportunities to refresh safeguarding, behaviour management and wider classroom practice.

Why choose Local Education?

- GCA-approved supplier with expanding school and trust access
- Daily supply, long-term, fixed-term and permanent opportunities
- Weekly PAYE pay and clear payslip information
- Honest conversations about rate, timetable and responsibilities
- Support before and during placements
- Interview and trial-day preparation
- Local knowledge of schools across South Essex
- School-specific induction where available
- A responsive team that will not pressure you into unsuitable work

What type of work is available?

Daily supply offers flexibility and normally involves delivering work set by the school.

Long-term teaching can include planning, assessment, marking, meetings and wider departmental responsibilities. We explain the expected commitment before you accept and ensure the role is matched to your experience and preferences.

We work with:

- ECTs seeking their first school or broader classroom experience
- Experienced classroom teachers
- Former Heads of Department and senior leaders
- Teachers returning after a break
- Part-time teachers seeking additional days
- Teachers looking for a temp-to-permanent route
- Retired teachers who still want to contribute flexibly

What we need from you

- Qualified Teacher Status or recognised teaching eligibility
- Relevant subject knowledge and secondary classroom experience
- Strong communication and behaviour management
- A professional and dependable approach
- Right to work in the UK
- Completion of enhanced DBS, references and safer recruitment checks

We are particularly interested in teachers who communicate openly about the type of school and assignment in which they perform best.

Good recruitment is not about placing every teacher everywhere; it is about creating a match that works for the teacher, the school and the pupils.

If you are reviewing your options for September, apply through CV-Library today.

A member of the Local Education team will contact suitable applicants to discuss subject specialism, availability, preferred locations, pay expectations and whether daily, long-term or permanent work is the right next step.
