Assistant Engineer / Engineer - Highways
Are you a Highway Engineer looking to develop your career within a forward-thinking local authority? Our client is seeking an Assistant Engineer / Engineer to join their Highways and Transportation team, delivering a wide range of infrastructure projects that improve connectivity, safety and the public realm across the district.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare feasibility studies, concept designs and engineering solutions for highway and transport schemes.
- Produce detailed highway and civil engineering designs, drawings, specifications and cost estimates.
- Carry out technical assessments, site inspections and engineering surveys.
- Support the delivery of projects including traffic management, highway improvements, road safety, maintenance, structures and public transport schemes.
- Assist with procurement, contract administration and supervision of construction works.
- Monitor contractor performance, quality, programme and compliance with specifications and health & safety requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, committee reports and project documentation.
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, utility companies, elected members and members of the public.
- Support public consultation events and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Ensure projects are delivered within agreed budgets and programme constraints.
- Maintain compliance with CDM Regulations, Health & Safety legislation and quality management procedures.
About You:
- A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least two years' experience in highway engineering, traffic engineering, highway maintenance, structures or civil engineering.
- Experience preparing engineering designs using AutoCAD or similar software.
- Knowledge of UK highway design standards and relevant engineering guidance.
- Experience assisting with construction supervision and contract administration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A full UK driving licence.
