A leading civil engineering contractor delivering complex infrastructure schemes across the UK is seeking a Section Engineer to join the team on a major highways project in Cumbria. This is a permanent position offering long‑term career development, stability, and exposure to a flagship programme. The role is delivery‑focused, with responsibility for coordinating engineering activities, integrating temporary works, and ensuring design outputs translate into safe, buildable solutions on site.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver highways and civil engineering works in line with programme, quality and safety requirements.
Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure temporary works and design intent are fully integrated into construction methodology.
Plan and manage temporary works implementation, ensuring permits, RAMS and assurance processes are in place before works commence.
Provide technical support to site teams, resolving buildability challenges and managing interface between design and construction.
Review drawings, specifications and temporary works designs to ensure constructability and compliance.
Participate in design reviews, constructability workshops and readiness reviews.
Ensure compliance with BS 5975, CDM Regulations and company procedures relating to temporary works and engineering assurance.
Promote safe working practices, innovation and continuous improvement across the project team.
Support and mentor Site Engineers and junior staff with technical and delivery guidance.
Requirements
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
Proven experience as a Section Engineer or Senior Engineer on highways or major civil engineering schemes.
Strong understanding of temporary works principles and design coordination.
Delivery‑focused approach with the ability to integrate design, planning and construction.
Working knowledge of BS 5975, CDM Regulations and relevant engineering standards.
Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Demonstrable leadership and mentoring capability.
